Conservation Concerns and Preservation Matters

In recognition and celebration of National Preservation Month, the Burgwin Wright House will present a lively and interactive discussion with Art Conservators, Jennifer Bullock and Massimiliano Bernasconi, of Carolina Conservation on May 18th at 5:30 p.m.

The presenters will speak about the cultural importance of preserving the art and artifacts of our past in order to safeguard them for the future. The conservators will present interesting case studies about past treatments, followed by a focused discussion regarding the current conservation needs of the Burgwin Wright House’s special collection.

About Bullock
Jennifer Bullock is the Lead Conservator at Carolina Conservation. After earning an MA in Art History at Brigham Young University Jennifer moved to Newcastle upon Tyne, England to pursue a Master’s degree in the Conservation of Fine Art with a specialism in Easel Paintings. Her work experience includes internships at various institutions, including the Victoria and Albert Museum and Tate Britain, Tate Modern and Tate Stores as well as private conservation work throughout England and the Western States. Jennifer loves every aspect of the science, craft and process of the conservation of fine art and has treated a variety of objects from Renaissance panel paintings to 18th century English pastoral paintings on canvas to modern and contemporary works.

About Bernasconi
Massimiliano (Massi) Bernasconi is the Books & Paper Conservator at Carolina Conservation. Massi earned his MA in Conservation of Books & Works on Paper from the Scuola Restauro di Villa Manin in Passariano, Italy. Massi has worked both internationally and within the U.S., and is trained to properly treat prints, drawings, documents and other works on paper using traditional treatments, such as aqueous bathing and adhesive removal, as well as more current techniques such as gelled systems and deacidification. With a comprehensive background in museum-quality paper conservation and a commitment to ongoing education, he is skilled in treating everything from works on paper to maps and historic documents.
