The Burgwin-Wright House is pleased to welcome local pastel artist Terri Moore for her solo show “A bit of this, A bit of that” of paintings of landscapes, animals and people. The Opening reception, in conjunction with Fourth Friday Gallery Nights, is on Friday May 27 from 6-9PM.Her artwork will be on display in our art gallery through June 18. Admission is free. Gallery is open Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm.From the Artist Terri Moore works in pastels, which is an art medium in the form of a stick, consisting of powdered pigment and a binder, and is a medium that has the highest pigment concentration. Pigments used in pastels are the same as those used in other visual arts, such as oil paints, however the color effect of pastels is closer to the natural pigments than any other process. Pastels have been used by artists since the Renaissance, and have gained considerable popularity. Because pastels are pure pigment, pastel paintings glow with intense luminous color and rich velvety texture, reflect light without darkening refraction, and allow for very saturated colors. A pastel painting is made by moving the sticks over an abrasive surface, so Terri works on sanded papers such as UArt, Canson Mi-Tienes, and Pastelmat, among others. She paints landscapes from the many different places she has been, as well as animals, and enjoys doing pet portraits. |
