The Burgwin-Wright House is pleased to welcome Chris Bloom for her solo show “The Illusion of Reality," inspired by the vibrant colors and textures of nature, from the soft light of the beach and marsh to the bright hues of flowers and the startling color of sunsets.

The Opening reception, in conjunction with Fourth Friday Gallery Nights, is on Friday July 28 from 6-9PM.

Bloom’s art will be on display in our gallery through August 19. Admission is free. Gallery is open Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm

From the Artist
I have always admired masterful contemporary painters like James Richards from Atlanta and Quang Ho from Denver and too many more to name. I am fascinated when I see what an artist can do with a canvas and some oil paint. I fell in love with painting with oils with the first brushstroke. I love to use color to capture form and light. I want to capture the vibrant colors and textures of nature in oil, from the soft light of the beach and marsh to the bright hues of flowers and the startling color of sunsets. I want to convey not so much the reality of what I am looking at, but my personal interpretation of color creating form. I use all I have learned about line, form, color, edges and composition to reach that goal. I invite viewers and collectors to explore their own responses to my art.

About the Artist
Chris Bloom creates vibrant, bold contemporary impressionist paintings at The Artworks in Wilmington, NC. She challenges herself to excel at painting still life and landscape paintings by studying with nationally known oil painters, Dan Beck, John Poon, and Kelli Folsom and by receiving two regional artist grants from the North Carolina Arts Council.
Chris is well known locally having been juried into the WAA’s annual spring show, shows through Gallery Citrine and the Landfall Art Show. Most recently, she has been juried into the Art in the Arboretum’s annual show and the Art League of Leland annual show. Chris Bloom also enjoys painting en plein air and has participated in numerous plein air events in North Carolina, including the Azalea Festival Paint Out, Southport Paint Out and Blowing Rock plein Air Paint Out.
