About the Show

“Three Visions: Metal, Paper and Glass” is an exhibit of work by three women artists, Sarah Sheffield, Lois Watson, and Elena Wright. Sarah works with copper and aluminum and uses jewelry and illustration processes to create lighthearted wall hangings. Lois cuts and layers a variety of handmade and specialty art papers to design joyful and intimate paper collages. Elena, a longtime glass artist, is currently concentrating on imaginative and intricate mosaic scenes with colorful glass beads. The three, while using different materials, share a common blending of graphic, fanciful, and realistic styles, incorporating imaginative and naturalistic themes into their art.

About the Artists

Sarah Sheffield
Following retirement from an arts administration position with the Town of Cary, Sarah turned to oil painting and exhibited in that medium for several years. She was later challenged by her Art of Illumination project for Cameron Art Museum to bring together her experience in several mediums, thus moving her away from solely oil painting to more multimedia work in metal. For her, she creates to discover— to fully observe, explore, and connect with the world. She enjoys the visual and tactile quality of the material she is working with and allows it to dictate some of the results.

Lois Watson
A pen/ink watercolor architectural renderer by profession for 28 years, and a paper collage artist for the love of creating, Lois finds her inspiration in beautiful handmade, marbled, and textured paper. Add to that a glimpse of a moment or an impression and she has the inspiration for a new creation by painting with paper.

Elena Wright
Elena is primarily a fused glass artist who also loves working with mosaics and glass beads. She finds glass to be a miracle substance because it magnifies and enhances light. For this exhibit, her work concentrates on imaginative and intricate mosaic scenes with colorful glass beads.
