Burgwin-Wright House is happy to welcome James C. Horton for his solo show in our gallery!An avid history buff, Horton often incorporates historic scenes of old Wilmington as a subject for his paintings with subjects ranging from Landscape and Water Scenes to his interpretations of historical events and places. Horton is also attracted to subjects that have a complicated or intricate structure or are of scenic beauty.The opening reception will take place on October 25 from 6-9pm. A painting that Horton made of the Historic Brunswick Town now hangs in their Visitor Center, and two of his paintings, one of which is of the Burgwin-Wright House, are the covers of Jack E. Fryar’s, Jr newest book “When the British Came: Revolution in the cape Fear, 1765-1782. Horton has had several one person shows throughout the Wilmington area including 3 at the Bellamy Mansion. Horton relocated with his wife, Joanne, to Wilmington from Pittsburgh PA in 2016 and loves the Coastal scene and all its adventure and stories He works in many media including Oil, Opaque Watercolor also known as Gouache, Graphite Pencil, and Acrylic. A graduate of The Ivy School of Professional Art, Horton worked as a Graphic Designer as well as a Technical Illustrator before changing fields and working as a Computer Draftsman. His work in these technically oriented disciplines is evident in the detail that he achieves on his Paintings and Drawings. He has exhibited regularly throughout his life, first with the Pittsburgh Society of Artists and more recently with The Wilmington Art Association and The Art League of Leland. He also has had several paintings at The Artworks Gallery in Wilmington and many of his paintings are now in private collections.
